On August 16, 1946 Marlin P. Maddux graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, IN. In November of that year he hosted his first auction--known then as a "tent auction" on West Main Street here in Greensburg, Indiana. In 1947 Marlin's business grew and he began conducting weekly sales at 521 N. West St. in town. During that time Marlin also incorporated his business into a moving and storage business and the name Maddux became not only synonymous with auctions but also with moving business as well.
The business eventually expanded again and in 1969 Maddux Moving, Storage and Auction moved into its current location that being the old C.J. Loyd building located on south Monfort St.
Much to Marlin's delight his two sons--Duane and Garry Maddux joined the family business and both became licensed auctioneers from the Reppert School of Auctioneering.
Before Marlin's untimely passing, he was honored by the Indiana Auctioneer Association by being inducted in their hall-of-fame in 1987.
Today Maddux Moving, Storage and Auction continues the strong legacy and precedent set by Marlin. His son Duane manages the business and is assisted by his son Ryan in running the day-to-day business.
